Promoting Fair Housing
We all have the right to Equal Housing Opportunity - to be free from discrimination in housing transactions, which include rentals, sales, financing, insurance, and advertising. For a wide variety of fair housing resources and assistance with a fair housing complaint, go to Piedmont Housing Alliance's Fair Housing Program. Contact the Piedmont Housing Alliance by phone at (434) 817-2436 or by email at . On Tuesday, December 16, 2003, TJPDC hosted a community planning session to discuss actions that restrict housing choices based on race, color, religion, sex, disability, familial status, and national origin, as well as fair housing laws and protections, discriminatory lending practices, housing patterns, and accessibility. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) requires an Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice for all recipients of HOME and Community Development Block Grant funds. The Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice is a companion document to the Consolidated Plan and seeks to identify the current fair housing profile of the City of Charlottesville and the Thomas Jefferson Planning District. It identifies the impediments to fair housing choice that exist in our communities, the current public and private fair housing programs and activities in the area, and then draws conclusions and makes recommendations.
