The Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission is seeking energetic, creative interns to learn from and assist its urban and transportation planning staff. The Commission has immediate openings at its Charlottesville, Virginia office, located steps away from Charlottesville’s award winning downtown pedestrian mall. The Thomas Jefferson Planning Commission is a Regional Planning body that provides planning services to a six county region in Central Virginia. The office’s work environment offers opportunities for people interested in engaging in a variety of urban and rural community planning tasks.
Our planning and transportation teams are seeking a creative, detail-oriented intern to take an active role in broad-based land use and mobility planning. The ideal candidate will have an educational background in urban planning, transportation planning, civil engineering, landscape architecture, or architecture with relevant internship experience within the public or private sector. Based in Charlottesville, this position will support planning efforts throughout the region of City of Charlottesville and Counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa and Nelson.
Must be in process of completing within the next 18 months, a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree from an accredited university in the field of Planning or other relevant major.
Strong communication, leadership and technical skills. Knowledge of GIS and mapping is a plus.
Ability to work a set schedule of at least 15-30 hours per week. Hourly wages of $12.00 to $15.00 per hour based upon level of education and community experience. Positions available immediately.
