The Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission is seeking energetic, creative candidate(s) to join its urban planning staff. The Commission has immediate openings in Charlottesville, Virginia, located steps away from Charlottesville’s award winning downtown pedestrian mall. The Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission is a Regional Planning body that provides planning services to the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa and Nelson Counties. The office’s work environment offers opportunities for people interested in engaging in a variety of urban and rural planning tasks working closely together with team members who are dedicated to helping the regional community through planning and implementation.

DUTIES:
Under the direct supervision of the Rideshare Program Manager, this full time regional planner position offers the motivated individual opportunities to develop and expand his or her professional capacities through research and development of varied innovative planning applications that support the agency’s transportation and land use programs, including but not limited to: advance level planning work, community development projects and local government services related to comprehensive planning, zoning, site plan review, subdivisions, architectural design, transportation planning, and grants administration.

Flexibility in program and project assignments offer the opportunity to work in various areas of the TJPDC’s programs and projects.  The focus area will be in Transportation Demand Management of alternative transportation opportunities of carpooling, transit, pedestrian and bicycling.

Planner will provide staff support for standing and ad hoc committees. Tasks include preparing agendas, attending meetings, preparing minutes, coordinating with chair persons and developing other meeting materials.

REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum requirements; Bachelor’s Degree in urban/city planning, transportation planning or related field with 1 year practical experience. Preferred requirements; Master’s Degree in Planning with 3 years’ experience in local government planning department and a valid driver’s license.

STARTING SALARY RANGE:
$38,000 Minimum Requirements to $42,500 Preferred Requirements
