Public Meeting: Regional Housing Study

September 18 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Come to discuss a proposed Housing Needs Assessment, which will identify what’s happening with housing in the Charlottesville region since the start of the pandemic. For the proposed study, researchers from Virginia Tech will gather data about our region, talk to citizens in focus groups, and identify the current needs and opportunities related to housing for people with low incomes, disabilities, and other priority needs. Researchers will identify the commuting patterns, the amount of a household’s income that is spent on housing, the need for more rental housing, the need for affordable homes to purchase, and potential strategies that localities can use to increase access to affordable housing.

Albemarle County, in partnership with the TJPDC (Planning District Commission), will be applying for funding from the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development to fund about 30% of the study. Other funding is anticipated from Virginia Housing and other counties and the City of Charlottesville.

The Public Meeting on September 18th will give citizens the opportunity to share their perspectives about what might be important to include in such a study, and give feedback about the planned project as a whole.

We will meet at Tonsler Park in the building at the center. To join virtually, please use the following link:
