2025 Regional Housing Summit Recap

Last Thursday, the Regional Housing Partnership hosted 215 people at the Omni in Charlottesville for the third Regional Housing Summit. With an emphasis on finding solutions to the need for affordable housing, speakers addressed tools and strategies that developers, localities, and communities can use to leverage regional resources to ensure safe and stable housing for all.

Those in attendance included elected officials, county and city staff, regional planners, housing developers, and non-profit staff that provide housing services. Summit attendees reported that they plan to take new actions as a result of their time at the Summit, including applying for Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC), partnering with others they met at the Summit, supporting the development of low barrier shelters, working to support the community land trust, incorporating new strategies in future Comprehensive Plans, advocating for building code updates, exploring a Rental Inspection Program, and developing private-public partnerships to develop more affordable housing.
