PATH Partners with CAA, BRHD, and InnoVage to Help Older Adults Ride CAT

The Partnership for Accessible Transportation Help (PATH) is a TJPDC Mobility Management program, designed to help improve and increase transportation options for older adults and other non-drivers. PATH works with transportation providers and helps elders find rides that meet their needs.

Recently, as part of the Charlottesville Area Alliance’s (CAA) AARP Livable Community grant, PATH, the Blue Ridge Health District (BRHD), Charlottesville Area Transit (CAT) and InnoVage staff worked together to host a group travel training event for seniors. The training was designed to assist elders in learning how to ride CAT. After a brief informational presentation and group discussion about expectations and experiences riding public transportation, the group took a CAT bus to the Downtown Transit Station, where a CAT supervisor shared information about the transit station and CAT’s system.

The event was initiated by CAA’s co-chair Sue Friedman and supported through CAA’s network of aging service providers and the AARP grant.

PATH is talking with other community partners and will be scheduling more transportation field trips and informational events. Please contact PATH at info@pathva.org if you are interested in having PATH staff come to your facility and help your elders find transportation options that work for them. Anyone can call PATH at 888-879-7379 or visit their website (www.pathva.org) to learn more about PATH’s services and get help finding a ride.
