The Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission (TJPDC) hosted a successful rain barrel workshop in Fluvanna County in partnership with the James River Association and the Thomas Jefferson Soil and Water Conservation District (TJSWCD) on October 3. Participants learned how to assemble and install rain barrels at home and received a 55-gallon drum and a RainRecycle rain barrel kit from The Rain Barrel Depot.
Every time it rains, stormwater carries things such as nutrients from fertilizers, bacteria from pet waste, and chemicals from herbicides and pesticides to local waterways. Using a rain barrel at home is a way to reduce stormwater pollution and conserve water. By collecting hundreds or even thousands of gallons of rainwater annually, these barrels can help residents save money on water and utility fees.
Looking ahead to 2025, we are thrilled to announce the expansion of our Rain Barrel Workshop program, made possible by funding from the Department of Environmental Quality. We will be hosting eight workshops in partnership with various organizations throughout the region.
Join us for our next workshop with TJSWCD on November 13th at 6 pm at Callie Opie’s in Louisa County. Register here to secure your spot!
