The 2024 General Assembly adjourned its 60-day session on March 9 by completing action on amendments to the current FY24 state budget; a biennial state spending plan for FY25 and FY26; and more than 90 bills that were in dispute in the session’s final days.
The FY25/FY26 budget was approved by the House of Delegates on a 62-37 vote and by the Senate, 24-14. The budget bill is being communicated to Governor Youngkin, who will have 30 days to act on it. The legislature also has received the governor’s recommendations on more than 80 bills that the General Assembly previously transmitted to him for his consideration and action prior to the session’s end; the governor signed 64 bills, proposed amending 12 bills and vetoed eight bills. Legislators will gather in Richmond in mid-April for its one-day reconvened session to consider gubernatorial amendments and vetoes.
