After many months of wrangling, state lawmakers at the 11th hour agreed on a state budget for fiscal years 2027 and 2028. The House and Senate approved a budget compromise on June 22 that had been crafted by senior legislators. Governor Abigail Spanberger proposed 14 amendments that the legislature approved a week later, enabling the budget to be enacted on June 29, just one day before expiration of the current fiscal year budget.
