Khansa Ghumman, Regional Affordable Housing VISTA
Khansa joined the TJPDC in August as the Regional Affordable Housing VISTA. She is a fourth-year at the University of Virginia studying Philosophy with minors in Business and Politics, and service has been a big part of my time here! I had the opportunity to travel overseas and work with a nonprofit on basic education and food and clothing distribution in impoverished communities, which was one of the best experiences of my life! Back home, I have tried to keep that momentum going by volunteering with community organizations in both Charlottesville and Northern Virginia. I also spent a summer as a legal operations intern at a technology company in Northern Virginia.
Q: What interested you in working at the TJPDC?
All of it points toward the same goal, a career in law that serves people. It is easy to get lost in theory and forget that policies and laws have real consequences for communities. I want to be someone who looks to bridge that gap. The TJPDC felt like the natural place to start doing that. The team here works extremely hard and genuinely cares about getting things right at the ground level, and I hope to learn from that and carry that same commitment forward!
Q: What is a hobby or fun fact that you would like to share?
A “fun” hobby of mine is that I love to read about history!
