RideShare’s Second Annual Bike Month Business Challenge Triples Community Impact

RideShare is thrilled to announce the success of its second annual Bike Month Business Challenge, held this May in celebration of National Bike Month. This year’s challenge significantly expanded on its inaugural run, showcasing a growing community commitment to active transportation and environmental sustainability!

The challenge saw enthusiastic participation from local businesses and organizations, including the City of Charlottesville, Piedmont Environmental Council, UVA Facilities Management, Charlottesville Waldorf School, Farmington Country Club, VMDO Architects, Grimm + Parker Architects, Charlottesville Climate Collaborative, and Greene County Economic Development.

Their collective efforts yielded impressive results:

  • 2,799 total miles biked by participating businesses and their employees.
  • 1,013 bike trips taken, demonstrating a strong shift towards active commuting.
  • 2 tons of greenhouse gas emissions reduced, tripling last year’s impact.

Thank you to Community Bikes, Grit Coffee, and Ben & Jerry’s, whose support was instrumental in making this year’s challenge a success and supporting rewards to participants for their efforts.

A special congratulations goes to UVA Facilities Management, who led the competition, winning both the “Most Bike Miles Traveled” and “Most Bike Trips” categories (per employee).

Building on the success of this expanded challenge, RideShare remains dedicated to promoting alternative transportation and fostering a cleaner, healthier, and more connected Central Virginia. We look forward to an even larger participation in next year’s Bike Month Business Challenge.
