On September 17, TJPDC staff participated in the United Way’s 34th Annual Day of Caring.
This year, a small but mighty group of our staff members volunteered to provide landscaping at the entrance and at the Bear Garden of the Rockfish Valley Community Center. This historic school building in Nelson County features local businesses and artisans, and provides a wealth of recreational, educational and cultural programs and community-sponsored events. It is also a scenic, well-maintained public space with trails, picnic tables, a playground and a skate park. The ongoing support of volunteers helps make this Community Center possible.
“Day of Caring is something I look forward to every year. It’s an opportunity to get out into the community and see tangible results while connecting with my coworkers in a nontraditional way,” says Ruth Emerick, Chief Operating Officer at TJPDC.
Accordingly to the United Way of Greater Charlottesville, “more than 2,100 registered volunteers completed 115 projects at nearly 100 sites. The estimated value of this service is more than $365,000, including donated materials and supplies.”
