RURAL TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM
The TJPDC’s Rural Transportation Program is a cooperative forum for transportation planning in the region, providing assistance and expertise to the region’s rural communities.
About the Program
The Rural Transportation Program started in 1993, through funding from VDOT’s Transportation Mobility Planning Division (TMPD). While the TJPDC serves the unique needs of its members, the State funds similar programs – twenty in all – for regions across the Commonwealth.

The Rural Transportation Program consists of one committee and a policy board.
Rural Transportation Advisory Committee (RTAC)
Provides technical recommendations to the policy Board. RTAC includes individuals with technical knowledge in transportation and land use matters.
Thomas Jefferson Planning District commission
Serves as the policy board, with the authority to approve annual work programs; set policies and scopes for the program; and, act as liaisons with the local elected boards.
