Our initial Summit in 2019 focused on housing and homelessness as issues of rising concern. The second Summit in 2023 focused on the complexity of meeting housing needs and ensuring places to live for all generations. This third Summit intends to build on the momentum and knowledge of previous Summits, by laying out solutions and innovations that can help address the housing needs of our region. We will explore a variety of solutions that can be implemented through for-profit development, local and regional policies, and collaborative community efforts.
The Keynote speaker is Erica Sims, who has been involved in housing solutions across the state of Virginia through non-profits, policy, and think tank strategic innovation for nearly 20 years. Other speakers include experts on policy, for-profit affordable housing developers, homeless services developers, and neighboring cities who have implemented effective strategies that our region might consider.
This event is sponsored in part by Virginia Housing, Specialized Insurance, Erie Insurance, Albemarle County, the City of Charlottesville, the University of Virginia, CACF, Pinnacle Construction, Sentara, Fluvanna County, Charlottesville Area Association of REALTORS® (CAAR), and 14 local businesses.
Media passes for filming and interviews will be available at the registration table at the Omni Hotel on March 13, 2025. Proposed interviews may be conducted during the designated breaks (11:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. – 12:50 p.m.) or after the Summit concludes, with Keith Smith, Vice Chair of the Regional Housing Partnership (RHP); William Park, President at Pinnacle Construction & Development Corp. and RHP member; Luke Roark, Owner at Commonwealth Contractors; Shayla Washington, Executive Director at Blue Ridge Area Coalition for the Homeless (BRACH); and Jesse Rutherford, Supervisor for Nelson County. Please use the contact information above to schedule an interview.
About the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission (TJPDC)

The TJPDC is guided by a locally appointed, twelve-member Commission, of which at least 51% are local elected officials. Member localities include the City of Charlottesville and the Counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson. Commission meetings, which are open to the public, are held the first Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the TJPDC Office. Funding sources include annual contributions from our member local governments, state appropriations, grants from federal and state governments, contract services and private foundations.
