The Regional Transit Partnership held its last meeting on November 18th. Members of both the RTP and the newly formed Charlottesville-Albemarle Regional Transit Authority (CARTA) celebrated their success in creating a regional transit authority to invest in transit improvements. RTP was initiated in 2017 to develop working relationships among transit providers and stakeholders. Representatives from Albemarle County, the City of Charlottesville, transit providers, staff, and other stakeholders volunteered their time and energy to improve coordination and public transportation services.
Supported by Albemarle County, the City of Charlottesville, and the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation, TJPDC staff assisted the RTP’s work by staffing the committee, securing funding to conduct studies, and managing the study projects on behalf of the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County. Among the studies leading up to the formation of the CARTA were the Regional Transit Vision Plan and the Regional Transit Governance Study.
More information and RTP studies can be found on the TJPDC’s Regional Transit Planning webpage.
