    During the 2022 General Assembly session, Delegate Sally Hudson introduced HJR 339 commending the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission (TJPDC) on the occasion of its 50th anniversary this year. TJPDC was established in 1972, on the heels of Virginia’s adoption of the Virginia Area Development Act (VADA), which was approved and signed into law in 1968. This law created the planning district commission framework “to encourage and facilitate local government cooperation and state-local cooperation in VATI addressing on a regional basis, problems of greater than local significance.” At the Commission’s…

    VATI Broadband Project to Officially Kick Off

    The TJPDC is the administrator for a 2022 Virginia Telecommunication Initiative (VATI) grant that will facilitate rural broadband expansion across a 13-county area, including the five counties that are part of the TJPDC region. The $79 million grant from the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), along with $209 million in local and private sector matching funds, support the $288 million project that will provide access to high-speed internet to more than 36,000 residents and business in the counties.     TJPDC Awarded EDA Grant to Develop Regional CEDS Plan

    The Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission was awarded an $80,000 grant by the US Economic Development Administration (EDA) along with $20,000 local matching funds to develop a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) for the region. A CEDS provides a vehicle for individuals, organizations, local governments, institutions of learning, and private industry to engage in a meaningful conversation and debate about what capacity building efforts would best serve economic development in the region.
