Weldon Cooper Center Releases 2025 Virginia Population Estimates

Each year, the Weldon Cooper Center develops and releases official population estimates for Virginia localities, metropolitan and micropolitan areas, and planning district regions to show population counts between decennial censuses. These estimates provide the best approximation of the population count on July 1 of the prior year. State and local governments use this data for funding allocations, planning, and budgeting purposes.The July 1, 2025, population estimate for the TJPDC region was 274,339, which is 15,2191 residents, or 5.9% higher than the 2020 Census estimate. April 2026 Commission Meeting Updates

The TJPD Commission met on April 2 and addressed the following topics:An update on activities of the Blue Ridge Cigarette Tax Board;Presentation of the Charlottesville-Albemarle Metropolitan Planning Organization FY27 United Planning Work Program draft; Adoption of the FY27 Rural Work Program; Appointment of Nominating Committee for TJPDC Officers.Presentation of the FY27 Draft Operating Budget, which will be voted on at the May meeting.The next meeting of the Commission is scheduled for May 7. Virginia PDC Directors Visit Capitol Hill

TJPDC Executive Director Christine Jacobs and Deputy Director David Blount recently were on Capitol Hill and met with representatives of Virginia’s Congressional offices. The luncheon briefing event was organized by the Virginia Association of Planning District Commissions (VAPDC) in conjunction with the 2026 National Association of Development Organization’s (NADO) Washington Conference. Staff from the offices of Senator's Kaine and Warner and from three of Virginia's Congressional offices attended. Attendees engaged in good discussion about regional projects and challenges, federal funding opportunities and other topics.

CVRHP Speaker Series Kicks Off April 8th

The Central Virginia Regional Housing Partnership kicks off it's speaker series on April 8th with a virtual presentation by Fabrizio Fasulo of Virginia Housing.
