    The 2023 TJPD Legislative Program has been approved by the six local governing bodies in the region. The Program has three top legislative priorities, which address public education funding; budgets and funding and broadband. The Program also contains legislative positions in a number of other topic areas of interest to local governments, including the Children’s Services Act; environmental and water quality; health and human services; housing; land use and growth management; public safety and transportation.     Regional Transit Governance Study

    The Regional Transit Governance Study hosted its kick-off meeting on November 7th with representatives from all of the TJPDC jurisdictions. This study is funded by DRPT, the City of Charlottesville, Albemarle County, and the TJPDC. It is a follow-up study recommended by the recently completed Regional Transit Vision Plan and will work to build a consensus among TJPDC jurisdictions on the best mechanism to generate and manage additional transit funding for the region. It seems as if I hear the water when the windows are open, though the sound is faint on the average day, too faint to register with any definition, but comforting nonetheless.     New Webpage for VATI-RISE Broadband Project

    The TJPDC now has a webpage for the TJPDC/Firefly-RISE project. The page was established as part of TJPDC’s role as administrator of the $79 million Virginia Telecommunication Initiative (VATI) grant, working with partner Firefly Fiber Broadband, to provide high-speed internet across 13 counties. The page includes an overview of the 2022 VATI project and links to various resources, most prominently the wealth of resources on the Firefly website.     Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville has recently completed four homes in the City of Charlottesville. The organization dedicated one of the homes on November 4th at a community event. The home is a four bedroom, two bath, 1440 square foot attached single family home, with a driveway.
