    The Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission was awarded an $80,000 grant by the US Economic Development Administration (EDA) along with $20,000 local matching funds to develop a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) for the region. A CEDS provides a vehicle for individuals, organizations, local governments, institutions of learning, and private industry to engage in a meaningful conversation and debate about what capacity building efforts would best serve economic development in the region.The TJPDC and Rappahannock-Rapidan Regional Commission (RRRC) will work together to identify super-regional strategies, goals, and objectives that will…

    Meet the Staff: Sandy Shackelford

    Sandy joined the TJPDC in 2019 as the Director of Planning and Transportation.  Sandy has worked on a wide range of transportation and planning projects during her tenure with the PDC, including the Rivanna River Corridor Study, an analysis of locations for a bicycle and pedestrian bridge across the Rivanna River, and the Zion Crossroads Gateway Plan.  She also directs the Charlottesville-Albemarle Metropolitan Planning Organization and the Rural Transportation Program. Sandy holds two degrees from Georgia Tech: a Masters Degree in Public Policy and a Bachelors of Science in Materials Science…

    Public Comment Period: Housing Preservation Grant Application

    The Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission seeks public comment on its Housing Preservation Grant application to USDA’s Rural Housing Service. If awarded, the grant will provide funding for emergency repairs, rehabilitation, and home safety modifications for very low-income rural homeowners in Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa and Nelson counties. The comment period is from June 17 through July 5, 2022. A draft statement of activities is available here for review and on the TJPDC's HOME Consortium web page.     The Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission (TJPDC) invites all interested citizens to comment on the Draft Regional Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP). The HMP  identifies goals, objectives and specific actions to help our  communities prepare for natural disasters before they occur, in order to reduce loss of life and property damage.     TJPDC Awards $1.8 Million for Development of 160 Affordable Housing Units

    The Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission (TJPDC) would like to announce the award of $1.8 million in grant funding from Virginia Housing to three affordable housing developers to include, the Charlottesville Redevelopment and Housing Authority (CRHA), Habitat for Humanity (Great Charlottesville, Fluvanna, and Piedmont), and Virginia Supportive Housing (VSH).  The 160 new affordable units will be developed across the planning district, to include units in the City of Charlottesville and the Counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson.
