    David joined the TJPDC in 1999 as a part-time Legislative Liaison, later transitioning to Director of Legislative Services and then being named Deputy Director. Since 2018, he also has served as Executive Director of the Virginia Association of Planning District Commissions. During his time at the PDC, he has overseen development of the annual legislative program and worked with local governments in the region to secure passage of dozens of locally-requested legislative initiatives. David is a graduate of James Madison University.Q: How did you first get interested in legislative (lobbying) work?A: I…

    Smart Scale Application Process

    Staff have been working with local transportation professionals and Charlottesville-Albemarle Metropolitan Planning Organization to prepare for the August Smart Scale deadline to apply for transportation funds. SMART SCALE is how the Virginia Department of Transportation prioritizes transportation projects through a biennial cycle. Project types eligible for SMART SCALE funding include highway improvements, transit and rail capacity expansion, bike and pedestrian improvements, and transportation demand management. Projects submitted by localities, MPOs, planning district commissions, and transit agencies are evaluated based on the following key factors: safety improvements, congestion reduction, accessibility, the…

    TJPDC Housing Grants Awarded

    TTJPDC has awarded 1.8 million in grant funds from Virginia Housing, to three affordable housing developers,  the Charlottesville Redevelopment and Housing Authority (CRHA), Habitat for Humanity (Great Charlottesville, Fluvanna, and Piedmont), and Virginia Supportive Housing (VSH). The 160 new affordable units will be developed across the planning district, to include units in the City of Charlottesville and the Counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson. Affordable housing developments that will receive grant support include Virginia Supportive Housing’s Premier Circle permanent supportive housing development, Habitat for Humanity’s scattered-site affordable homeownership initiative, and…

    Christine Jacobs, Executive DirectorChristine joined the TJPDC in 2018 as Housing Program Manager, and then later served as the Chief Operating Officer.     Blue Ridge Cigarette Tax Board Is Up and Running

    The Blue Ridge Cigarette Tax Board (BRCTB) was established pursuant to Code of Virginia § 58.1-3832 to assess, collect and disburse the cigarette taxes levied by and for its member jurisdictions. Current members of the BRCTB are the Counties of Albemarle, Augusta, Fluvanna, Greene, Madison and Orange; the City of Charlottesville; and the Town of Madison. The Board is composed of one representative from each jurisdiction. The current Board chairman is Ted Voorhees (Orange County).
