Southwood Project update

On Monday, July 10, TJPDC and Virginia Housing staff performed site visits at Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville’s Southwood Development. As a part of Virginia Housing’s PDC Housing Development grant, a total of 12 homes in the development used funding awarded to TJPDC to pay for construction materials and labor. The houses include nine single-family attached homes and three affordable condo units. These units will generate affordable housing for those earning less than 60% Area Median Income (AMI), with most falling between 25-40% AMI. The Southwood project, while open…

CVRHP Developer Work Session

On Wednesday, July 12, the Central Virginia Regional Housing Partnership (CVRHP) hosted a work session, at the request of the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors, to seek feedback from for-profit and non-profit developers on a proposed Affordable Dwelling Unit ordinance and on developer incentives. Over 20 stakeholders, as well as CVRHP members, attended the discussion, which was held at UVA’s North Fork Research Park and was moderated by CVRHP Vice-Chair Keith Smith. Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy Process Update

The TJPDC was awarded an Economic Adjustment Assistance grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration in 2022 to support the development of a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) for the region. Following a public procurement process, the TJPDC and Rappahannock-Rapidan Regional Commission awarded contracts to Camoin Associates to assist in the development of a CEDS for each region, along with a set of super-regional strategies to support the work of the GO Virginia Region 9 Council. Curtis Scarpignato, Regional PlannerCurtis joined the TJPDC in January of 2023 as a planner focused on transportation issues. His work primarily centers on supporting long-range transportation planning, facilitating the Rural Transportation Advisory Committee, and providing project management expertise to workstreams, including the Safe Streets and Roads for All grant. His background includes non-profit, private, and public sector experiences. Gretchen Thomas, Administrative AssistantGretchen joined the TJPDC in March of 2011 as the Administrative Assistant, she is the often the first person people encounter at the PDC, whether on the phone or at the front desk. Through her role she provides support to all staff and programs, including minutes for meetings, support for events, coordinating meeting space requests, and general office needs.
