    May is Bike Month!This year, a coalition of nonprofits, local governments, and volunteers is organizing Charlottesville’s annual Bike to Work Week, from May 15-19.     Firefly Celebrates 20,000 Rural Fiber Broadband Connections Across Central Virginia

    TJPDC staff members attended Firefly Fiber Broadband’s recent celebration of reaching 20,000 rural fiber broadband connections across the Central Virginia Electric Cooperative (CVEC) service area. Firefly is partnering with TJPDC on a three-year, $288 million dollar fiber broadband expansion program to reach additional unserved locations in Central Virginia, building off the CVEC fiber buildout. This additional work is supported by a $79 million Virginia Telecommunication Initiative (VATI) grant awarded to TJPDC and $209 million in matching funds (including over $32.8 million from the 13 counties that are part of the…

    VHA AmeriCorps VISTA Project

    Virginia Housing Alliance’s (VHA) AmeriCorps VISTA project is a statewide intermediary project with 18 Host Sites, that all work to either expand affordable housing opportunities and/or end homelessness throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. VHA’s VISTA project aims to develop viable communities by promoting integrated approaches that provide decent housing, suitable living environments, and expansive economic opportunities for low and moderate-income persons.     Regional Housing Summit Recap

    On March 24, 2023, the Central Virginia Regional Housing Partnership hosted its 2nd Annual Regional Housing Summit, entitled “Coming Back Home”. Over 215 individuals registered for the event, with nine breakout sessions covering a variety of affordable housing topics, and a keynote address from the Executive Director of LISC Hampton Roads, Jay Grant.     VAPDC Goes to Washington

    The Virginia Association of Planning District Commissions (VAPDC) hosted a luncheon briefing with representatives of Virginia’s Congressional offices in mid-March. This was done in conjunction with the 2023 National Association of Development Organization’s Washington Conference. Staff from Senator Kaine’s office and five of our Congressional offices attended. We engaged in good discussion about regional projects, federal funding opportunities and other topics. VAPDC was represented by a good cohort of Board members, PDC Commissioners, Executive Directors, and staff.
