TJPDC received a U.S. EDA Economic Adjustment Assistance grant to fund development of a regional Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) plan to benefit all TJPDC localities. A CEDS is meant to integrate with and complement other economic development plans. Rather than being “owned” by any one agency, a CEDS consists of plans of action that may be undertaken by multiple players. The CVRHP hosted its second webinar of their Winter/Spring 2024 Speaker Series on February 14th focusing on the Virginia Zoning Atlas. Housing Forward Virginia (HFV) has unveiled their Virginia Zoning Atlas interactive map, offering deep insights into the intricacies of land use policies in the Hampton Roads region. The staff and members of the TJPDC offer their sincere gratitude to our outgoing Commissioners whose terms ended in December.Dale Herring, Greene County Supervisor, served as Chair and as Vice-Chair during his tenure on the Commission. TJPDC Launches Move Safely Blue Ridge Initiative

TJPDC hosted a regional summit at Charlottesville’s CitySpace on January 10, to launch the Move Safely Blue Ridge Initiative, which targets transportation safety in the region. The regional summit is one of the organization’s first steps in gathering input and engaging community leaders as a part of the development of a transportation-related Safety Action Plan.Move Safely Blue Ridge will focus on strategies to reduce roadway-related fatalities and serious injuries in the City of Charlottesville and the Counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson. New Mobility Management Services Launch

New Ride Finding Service for Older Adults and People With DisabilitiesTJPDC and JABA’s new mobility management program is now taking calls from older adults and people with disabilities who need rides in Region 10. Staff is working with CAT, Jaunt, UTS and other transportation providers to help people find rides. There is no charge for the transportation counseling service and anyone can call the toll-free number, 888-879-7379, to receive help navigating the public transportation system.Staff will also be recording unmet transportation needs to use in developing solutions for future years.…

The 2024 General Assembly is Underway

The 2024 General Assembly session gaveled to order on Wednesday, January 10. The operative word for this session is NEW.....a new legislative building, a lot of new faces (more than one third of the members in both the House and Senate are new), and certainly new ideas. The session runs 60 days and is scheduled to end on March 9. During the course of the session, legislators likely will consider close to 2,500 bills and hundreds of resolutions.
