    The TJPD Commission met on February 8th and received presentations on the following topics: 1) Executive Director, Christine Jacobs, provided an orientation to the TJPDC, which welcomed four new Commissioners: Albemarle County Supervisor Mike Pruitt, Greene County Supervisor Tim Goolsby, Citizen Representative from Greene County James Higgins, and  Louisa Supervisor Manning Woodward; 2) the FY25 CAP Operating Grant for the RideShare program; 3) the FY25 Grant for the Mobility Management program; and 4) a resolution for the application for a USDOT RAISE Grant- Rivanna River Bike Ped Bridge.     Weldon Cooper Center Releases New Virginia Population Estimates

    Each year, the Weldon Cooper Center develops and releases official population estimates for Virginia counties and independent cities to show population counts between decennial censuses. These estimates provide the best approximation of the population count on July 1 of the prior year.  State and local governments use this data for funding allocations, planning and budgeting purposes.The July 1, 2023 population estimate for the TJPDC region was 272,011, which is about 8,394 residents, or 3.2% higher, than the 2020 Census.     CEDS Grant Update

    TJPDC received a U.S. EDA Economic Adjustment Assistance grant to fund development of a regional Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) plan to benefit all TJPDC localities. A CEDS is meant to integrate with and complement other economic development plans. Rather than being “owned” by any one agency, a CEDS consists of plans of action that may be undertaken by multiple players.     CVRHP Continues Winter/Spring Speaker Series

    The CVRHP hosted its second webinar of their Winter/Spring 2024 Speaker Series on February 14th focusing on the Virginia Zoning Atlas. Housing Forward Virginia (HFV) has unveiled their Virginia Zoning Atlas interactive map, offering deep insights into the intricacies of land use policies in the Hampton Roads region.     TJPDC Launches Move Safely Blue Ridge Initiative

    TJPDC hosted a regional summit at Charlottesville’s CitySpace on January 10, to launch the Move Safely Blue Ridge Initiative, which targets transportation safety in the region.
